Currently on the ground in stage 3 for Iluka Resources’ Cataby Mineral Sands project

After recently delivering two mining villages ahead of schedule for Iluka Resources’ Cataby Mineral Sands project, Grounded Construction Group are now in the construction phase for stage 3.

Providing for administration services, stage 3 encompasses the administration, storage and medical necessities for the entire mine and its people.

The project works include the design and construction of an administration area consisting of 19 modules and two warehouse spaces (25m x 20m).

Developed for the duration of the life of the mine, the design process included engaging electrical, civil hydraulic, structural and process treatment engineers to formulate an efficient and ‘fit for’ purpose facility.

Two opposing warehouse spaces also form part of the design, allowing for the storage of Iluka’s process equipment.¬† The secure workshop will include hoist equipment for the servicing of mine vehicles.

It is expected that up to 100 personnel will be accommodated within two separate administration buildings which total approximately 60 metres in length.

Part of the construction phase includes the install of infrastructure to house critical state-of-the-art communications systems including real time tracking that will deliver all process data back to the Iluka head office in the Perth CBD.

Adequate amenities for employees and contractors has been taken into consideration with the design of medical areas. Encompassing a first-aid/emergency building with full time ambulance services there will be a laboratory for processing samples taken and standalone sample storage facility.

Two separate open storage areas have been provided for in the design with a secure containment within each one. A water treatment plant will be constructed to treat raw water, with waste water being disposed of by way of a subterranean waste water treatment plant.

Completing the design are pavement systems specifically constructed for heavy vehicles, specialty secured unloading areas and covered modern landscaping sections to create a relaxed, healthy environment for all.

“In our specialised design, we are pleased to be able to provide for all of the necessities required for staff and contractors during the life of the mine. Our partnership with Iluka Resources is valued and we are looking forward to the development of this project.” Said Paul Natoli, Managing Director.
